Airborne Mission Systems Operator

Overview: The most essential element in any tactical mission is effective Command and Control (C2). Airborne Mission Systems personnel operate the radar, communications, and electronic equipment on the E-3 and EC-130 aircraft that serve as airborne command and control centers during tactical and strategic missions.   

Position:  Enlisted


Specific Tasks:

  • Operate, maintain, test, and repair airborne communications, sensor, computer, and electronic systems 
  • Maintain communications with ground, air, and sea units supporting the mission


  • Physical qualification for aircrew duty 
  • Normal depth perception 
  • ASVAB score of 70 on Electrical 
  • Demonstrated weight lift of 40 pounds
  • Eligibility to deploy and mobilize worldwide
  • Height not less than 64 inches or more than 77 inches
  • Eligibility for a Top Secret security clearance


  • Candidates without prior military experience are required to attend 8 ½ weeks of Basic Military Training (BMT) at JB San Antonio-Lackland, TX; followed by Technical Training 
  • Technical Training - JB San Antonio-Lackland, TX, Fairchild AFB, WA and/or Tinker AFB, OK  
  • College credit earned: Information Systems Technology - number of credits varies
