Airborne Mission Systems Specialist

Overview: The most essential element in any tactical mission is effective Command and Control (C2). Airborne Mission Systems personnel operate the radar, communications and electronic equipment on the E-3 and EC-130 aircraft that serve as airborne command and control centers during tactical and strategic missions.   

Position: Enlisted

AFSC: 1A3X1

Specific Tasks:

  • Operate, maintain, test and repair airborne communications, sensor, computer and electronic systems 
  • Maintain communications with ground, air and sea units supporting the mission

Requirements:

  • For entry into this specialty, completion of high school with courses in physics, mathematics, computer principles, typing, speech and English is desirable
  • Physical qualification for aircrew duty 
  • Normal depth perception 
  • ASVAB score of 70 on Electrical 
  • Must maintain eligibility to deploy and mobilize worldwide
  • Height not less than 64 inches or more than 77 inches
  • Physical qualification for voice communications operations is mandatory 

Training: 

  • Candidates without prior military experience are required to attend 8.5 weeks of Basic Military Training (BMT) at JB San Antonio-Lackland, TX; followed by Technical Training
