Airfield Systems

Overview: Installing and maintaining the radio, navigation, and meteorological systems used to control air traffic is the task of Airfield Systems personnel.  They work both in airfield ground facilities as well as on equipment installed on aircraft.

Position:  Enlisted


Specific Tasks:

  • Install, remove, relocate, modify, deploy, and maintain fixed and mobile meteorological, navigation, and air traffic control ground-to-air radio systems 
  • Supervise meteorological and navigation systems maintenance activities 
  • Establish requirements for maintenance equipment, tools, and spare parts and account for supplies and materials


  • ASVAB score of 70 on Electrical 
  • Demonstrated weight lift of 50 pounds
  • Eligibility for Secret security clearance 
  • Normal color vision 
  • Qualification to operate government motor vehicles  
  • Freedom from fear of heights


  • Candidates without prior military experience are required to attend 8 ½ weeks of Basic Military Training (BMT) at JB San Antonio-Lackland, TX, followed by Technical Training 
  • Technical Training is 139 days at Keesler AFB, MS 
  • College degree and credits earned: Electronics Systems Technology - 37 credits
