Command Post

Overview: The base command post is the central control point for base mission operations and often is in direct communication with the Wing Commander.  Command Post personnel are key facilitators in ensuring optimal Command and Control (C2) operations and communications. Specific tasks depend on the mission and aircraft assigned to that base, which could range from cargo transport to space systems and nuclear operations.

Position:  Enlisted

AFSC: 1C3X1

Specific Tasks:

  • Provide command, control, communications, and information support 
  • Ensure commanders are advised of the status of aircraft and missions 
  • Prepare and submit operational, readiness and SORTS (Status of Resources and Training) reports 
  • Perform nuclear C2 actions in the execution phase of Emergency War Orders 
  • Operate and monitor voice, data and alerting systems

Requirements: 

  • Normal color vision 
  • Able to speak English clearly and distinctly 
  • ASVAB score of 67 on General and 55 on Administrative
  • Demonstrated weight lift of 40 pounds
  • No record of emotional instability 
  • Eligibility for Top Secret security clearance

Training: 

  • Candidates without prior military experience are required to attend 8 ½ weeks of Basic Military Training (BMT) at JB San Antonio-Lackland, TX followed by Technical Training 
  • Technical Training - 31 days at Keesler AFB, MS 
  • College credits earned: Information Systems Technology - 13 credits
