Space Operations

Overview: The frontiers of space provide the daily work environment for Space and Missile Operations officers. They supervise space systems programs including surveillance, intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM), spacelift, ballistic space warning and satellite command and control operations.

Position:  Officer


Specific Tasks:

  • Formulate, coordinate, operate and control space and missile operations policies 
  • Coordinate with national and international space agencies on ICBM, space and satellite launching,  and space warning, tracking, control and cataloging activities 
  • Perform satellite operations, including launch and early orbit activities 
  • Catalog foreign and domestic space objects and provide assessment 
  • Perform associated battle management, command and control and communications activities 
  • Conduct nuclear and emergency war order training for combat crew members


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in science, technology, engineering or math discipline
  • Commission as an officer in the Air Force Reserve
  • Normal color vision
  • Eligibility for Top Secret security clearance


  • For those without a prior military service commission, successful completion of the nine week Officer Training School at Maxwell AFB, AL is required
